All Things Cage, with Timothy Constable and Synergy Percussion
Artistic Director of Synergy Percussion, Timothy Constable will complete the second of 2, 2012 residencies by Synergy Percussion as part of the ANU/Synergy Masters Program in Percussion. This one week residency will focus on the music of American Icon John Cage.

All Things Vibraphone with Joe Locke (USA) International Conference, Gary France Artistic/Educational Director
International virtuoso vibraphone artist Joe Locke (USA) headlines this 5- Day international seminar and conference focusing on the Vibraphone. Musicians, scholars and educators will celebrate this often overlooked keyboard percussion instrument through masterclasses, clinics and scholarly papers, hosted by the ANU School of Music.

Eugene Ughetti and Speak Percussion in Residence at ANU
Winner of the 2011 Music Council of Australia/Freedman Fellowship for Classical Music, and the prestegious 2012 Sidney Meyer Creative Fellowship, Speak Percussion's Artistic Director Eugene Ughetti will join the ANU Percussion Area for a week of cutting edge new music research and performance practice.

The DRUMatiX on Tour Sweden
The DRUMatiX Percussion Group will participate in an exchange program with Anders Åstrand and Ensemble Evolution at Luleå Technical University's Department Music and Media in Piteå, Sweden. This joint program is a continuation of the exchange program commenced in March of 2012 and held at the ANU.

Gary France and the DRUMatiX Percussion will join percussionists from around Australia in an exciting program in Melbourne Australia. The 2012 Speak Percussion Emerging Artists Program will involve a number of exciting performance and creative development opportunities such as performing Inuksuit, with composer John Luther Adams (USA), The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO) percussion section, Eighth Blackbird Ensemble (USA) and KROMATA Percussion (Sweden).

Gary France in Cuba
Gary France will conduct performance research in Cuba. This 4-week intensive program is supported by the 2012 Friends of the ANU School of Music Travelling Fellowship, Australia Cuba Friendship Society, Canberra, "ACFS" and the Centro de Coordinatión para la Colaboracion Internaciónal de la Cultura Cubana, Ministry of Culture, Havana with the full support of the Cuban Embassy in Australia.

Anders Åstrand and Ensemble Evolution (Sweden) will explore new works with Gary France and the DRUMatiX Percussion Group in an exciting week of joint research, composition and fusion of new media technologies. This week will culminate in a concert on Saturday 24 March in the Band Room at the ANU School of Music.

The DRUMatiX Percussion Group, Gary France Artistic Director, presented a concert that featured music by one of the twentieth centuries most influential and controversial composer/performer Frank Zappa. The DRUMatix will present Zappa's "Black Page" Originally written for the drum kit and melodic percussion the piece was later rearranged in several versions, including a disco and a so-called New Age version. Jan Williams has performed as solo percussionist with orchestras in Paris, Berlin, Israel, Detroit, New York, and Copenhagen. He has appeared as percussionist, conductor, and instructor throughout the United States and internationally. Composers who have written works for him include John Cage, Elliott Carter, Joel Chadabe, Luis De Pablo, Gustavo Matamoros, Frederic Rzewski, Iannis Xenakis, Morton Feldman, Orlando Garcia, Nils Vigeland, and Lukas Foss. His playing and conducting has been captured on at least three dozen commercial recordings and hundreds of archival recordings. rePercussions of Movement / Gary France / Kim O’Connell | March 23-29/08. Following on from a world premiere season at the 2007 Castlemaine State Festival this work will receive its Canberra premiere at the Street Theatre. An audio-visual meditation on movement and travel, from the invisible dance of sonic harmonics to the tectonic grindings of world cultures, Re-percussions of Movement will weave a journey that starts at your birth and ends at the far edges of your dying thoughts. “I see how this body influences external images: it gives back movement to them. I also see plainly how external images influence the image that we call my body: they transmit movement to it”. Henri Bergson In the tradition of conceptual musicians and performance artists, like Laurie Anderson and David Byrne, Re-percussions is an investigation of movement, physical and psychological, through a kaleidoscopic integration of percussion, images, and spoken word. Sound as reality. Image as representation. Text as enquiry. Art as freedom of movement in the Street Theatre Studio. Sound as reality. Image as representation. Text as enquiry. Dance as translation. National Gallery of Australia turns 25' Gary France and Blue poles
Percussionist / Sound Artist Gary France recently created a new installation for the celebration of the Australian National Gallery’s 25th Birthday Celebration, 2007. As part of this international celebration Mr France was commissioned to compose and perform “Contextures with Blue Poles” which he performed live in front of the painting.

Gary France and the DRUMatiX Percussion Group with special Guest Tuza Afutu Master Drummer, Dancer and Percussionist from Ghana, West Africa. Percussionist Gary France and ANU DRUMatiX are an award winning combination any year – but particularly in 2007. Previously delighted audiences will a very special winter concert on June 1st and 2nd, 2006 at the ANU Arts Centre. This year's program celebrates Gary France's tenth year at the ANU (twentieth in Australia!) Come and hear Steve Reich’s mesmerizing “Sextet”, Fredrick Rzewski’s “Coming Together” a haunting tribute to the 1971 inmate uprising at the notorious Attica Prison uprising featuring international Jazz Artists Eric Ajaye and Miroslav Bukowsky. Erik Griswold’s “Strings Attached” and the ANU World Music African Drum and Dance Ensemble with Master Drummer Tuza Afutu. May 30 and June 1 and 2 ANU Arts Centre Theatre Tickets are available through Canberra Ticketing in late February

Toru Takemitsu, From Me Flows What You Call Time Gary France joins, as soloist, fellow percussionists Lenny Sakofsky, Bruce McKinnon, Tim Constable and Rob Clarke to perform Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu, From Me Flows What You Call Time, for orchestra and five percussionists. Takemitsu’s score was written to celebrate the grandeur and tranquility of Carnegie Hall in New York. An incredible concert from three master composers of the Pacific Rim. Rangitoto, by New Zealand composer Gareth Farr, is the thundering opening to the finale of Auckland Festival, AK07.
